Silverstone stardom for racer Ryan turns the spotlight on The Wheel Specialist
Hundreds of thousands of motorists rely on wheels refurbished or enhanced by The Wheel Specialist - but one person who’s making better use of his wheels than most is racing driver Ryan Lovett.
He’s set a spectacular lap record at Silverstone, the home of British motor racing, in his road-legal Caterham, the car that became an icon when it was featured in the cult TV series The Prisoner.
His Caterham stands out from the crowd with its Lamborghini-green neon wrap and matching wheels, powder-coated as part of a sponsorship deal by The Wheel Specialist.
Pushed to their limits by Ryan, those wheels went faster round the Silverstone Grand Prix track than anyone ever before in the hotly-contested Caterham Roadsport Championship.
“My lap time was 2 minutes 33.664 seconds,” says Ryan, who finished fifth out of 26 drivers in his first race and sixth in the next.
“It’s so important to have sponsors like TWS as it lets me style and kit out my car to look good and frees me to deal with other expenses including repairing damage, which seems to be a common occurrence for me.”
“At Brands Hatch I crashed into a car on the first bend, rejoined the track last-but-one and was later disqualified for overtaking while the safety car was out,” says Ryan.
“In the second race of the weekend, because of my disqualification, I started 26th - last on the grid -but during the 20 minute race I fought back 18 places to finish 8th overall.
“The cars in the championships at varying levels all have weird and wonderful designs. Having TWS as a sponsor means I’ve been able to have my wheels updated to match the neon green of my car.
“It really stands out and catches the eye of people in the paddock and on the track – and that, in part, is down to TWS and the great job they’ve done on the wheels.
“I’m sitting ninth in the championship with three race weekends left this year at Croft, Snetterton and Cadwell, where I hope to continue with the great form of Knockhill and Silverstone and increase my standing in the championship.”
Jack Murphy, Managing Director of The Wheel Specialist, is watching Ryan’s progress closely – and with pride.
“We thoroughly enjoy supporting Ryan with his racing,” he says. “It provides The Wheel Specialist and its franchisees with exposure to a hard-to-reach niche market.
“We have strong hopes for Ryan in the remainder of his championship.”
